Delegates to ALAMAU 2017 will be aspiring ambassadors and diplomatic leaders drawn from several countries within and outside Africa, united by a burning passion to play a role in the continent’s transformation. Therefore, it is important to create an opportunity for Africa’s future diplomatic leaders to interact with and learn from some of the current diplomats who have worked for several years representing their countries within and outside Africa.
With several ambassadors and diplomats based in South Africa, the ALAMAU 2017 Diplomatic Reception and Roundtable will bring these experts together for a cocktail reception and a discussion panel to give the delegates the opportunity to network with the diplomats and gain insights into the daily complexities of international representation and pan-African cooperation. Delegates will also be able to ask critical questions and about current issues regarding African development and seek advice on pursuing careers in diplomacy.
Past participants at the Diplomatic Reception and Roundtable include Ambassador Bene M’Poko of the Democratic Republic of Congo (also Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in South Africa), Ambassador Vincent Karega of Rwanda, Ambassador Claude Ruben Fassinou of the Republic of Benin, Mrs Martha Pobee from the High Commission of Ghana, Consul-General Christopher Rowan of the United States of America, Mr. Rachid Agassim, Charge d’Affaires of the Kingdom of Morocco, as well as other diplomats from Zimbabwe, Mauritius and Somalia.
